The Battle Creek Gift Shop is conveniently located close to W.K. Kellogg Airport where the Balloon Festival and Field of Flight air show and carnival will be going on June 29th to July 4th. Just take Helmer Road from the airport to Columbia Ave. and turn East. We’re on the corner of 28th Street, which is the first traffic light you’ll reach. We’re so close, the balloons sometimes go over our store.

Whether you’re looking for a hot air balloon refrigerator magnet, Petoskey stone, or a hat to keep the sun out of your eyes, pop into our neighborhood gift shop. If you’re staying in town for a couple days, we might even have time to engrave something for you.

We’ve got some items around the store that would prove useful while you’re enjoying the air show from the airport grounds. At our store, you’ll find:

  • Soft-shell camo insulated cooler bag with handles and shoulder strap for carrying the cool drinks that you’ll need under the hot sun.
  • If you’re at the Fort Custer campground, you might want to treat yourself to a packable hammock. Hang it between two trees by your camper and work the kinks out of your back on vacation.
  • A large shoulder bag with multiple compartments. You’ll be able to secure your wallet, carry a water bottle, pack some suncreen, and have a place for your phone or tablet. As of this writing, we have these tactical shoulder bags in coyote, olive drab, and black. Only $29.99!
  • Pocket-sized binoculars so you can get closer views of the planes.
  • Petoskey stone souvenirs, Battle Creek souvenirs, and Great Lakes car stickers.

We’ve also got a large selection of boonie hats in solid colors and camo patterns.

boonie hats

These hats have an adjustable chin strap, so the hat will stay on your head when fighter jets blow past your position. The wide brims protect your head and eyes from the sun and offer some protection if you get caught in a downpour. Vents in the top help keep you cooler. Boonie hat prices start at $10.99. We also have camo baseball hats if that’s your style.

The Battle Creek Gift Shop is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. We’ll be closed on the Fourth of July.

Lakeview Spartans Homecoming 2016 this October 7th

Because of the location of our store on W. Columbia Ave and 28th Street, we always stock Lakeview Spartans hoodies and t-shirts in both adult and kids sizes.

The homecoming parade goes right by our store and lots of people line 28th street on both sides of Columbia to watch it. The police close Columbia for a little while so the parade can go through. Lots of people usually attend the tailgate party across the street in the middle school parking lot and watch the parade as well.

The Lakeview Spartans will be playing Norrix at 7 p.m. The parade goes by here usually between 6 and 6:30. The parade route starts by Calhoun Christian, goes down Territorial, and then comes down 28th Street to the stadium area.

In the week or two leading up to homecoming, people like to pop into our store to get a hoodie or a t-shirt to show their support for the Spartans.

Last year, we discovered that people who had grade-school kids walking in the parade came to our store because we had Lakeview shirts in kids’ sizes, which aren’t as readily available at other stores. District schools often have t-shirt sales prior to homecoming, but if you miss the deadline or the order form gets lost among all the other bales of paper the grade schools send home, we’ll have the kids’ shirts that you need.

Right now we have t-shirts in purple (adult & youth) or gray (adult). The purple ones are 100% cotton and the gray ones are 50/50 cotton polyester blend. They are made from nice quality Gildan shirts. Hoodies are also Gildan brand and a 50/50 cotton polyester blend.

Hoodies $23.99 and t-shirts $10.99

As of today, we have kids’ purple Lakeview t-shirts in these sizes and quantities:

  • Small – 8
  • Medium – 10
  • Large – 10
  • XL – 8

Kids’ purple hoodies in theses sizes and quantities:

  • Small – 2
  • Medium – 5
  • Large – 4
  • XL – 4

Adult purple Lakeview t-shirts in these sizes and quantities:

  • Small – 7
  • Medium – 6
  • Large – 3
  • 2X – 2 ($12.99)
  • 3X – 1 ($12.99)

Adult hoodies in these sizes and quantities:

  • Small – 3
  • Medium – 4
  • Large – 18
  • XL – 13
  • 2X – 2 ($26.99)
  • 3X – 1 ($26.99)

Groups that want to put together a matching look might be able to find enough shirts at our store. Our location also makes it a convenient place to come in and get a shirt before the game.

We’re located at 1778 W. Columbia Ave. and open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Exciting Books about Battle Creek Cold Cases, Crime King, and History

Books about Battle Creek, Michigan

We’re pleased to announce that we have Battle Creek books by Blaine Pardoe and Victoria Hester in stock at the store. Along with copies about the compelling cold cases of the murders of Daisy Zick and Maggie Hume, we have the writing team’s new release The Original Battle Creek Crime King: Adam “Pump” Arnold’s Vile Reign.

Packed with historical photographs and thorough research by Pardoe and Hester, The Original Battle Creek Crime King will introduce you to a Victorian era citizen of this town known as an assassin, pimp, bootlegger, arsonist, and loan shark. This book will relate the terror he inflicted on the residents of the town and then let you experience his public trial for the murder of his own son.

In the other titles, Murder in Battle Creek: The Mysterious Death of Daisy Zick and The Murder of Maggie Hume, you’ll get to examine the evidence and reach your own conclusions. The cold case about Zick is very vexing whereas the evidence in Hume’s murder points strongly in one direction although charges were never made against the suspect.
